Hotel Vs Airbnb Calculator
Compare total hotel cost against total Airbnb cost for the same trip, including taxes and fees, with a recommendation.
Every figure in this comparison is exactly what you enter. This calculator does not look up real hotel or Airbnb prices, fees, cleaning charges, taxes, or availability — nightly rates, tax rates, and fees vary by location, season, and listing, so use your own quotes or research for accurate numbers.
Resort fees or other flat charges for the whole stay.
Cleaning fee, service fee, or other flat charges for the whole stay.
How This Calculator Works
Enter the number of nights, the nightly cost, tax rate, and any flat fees for both a hotel and an Airbnb you're considering. The calculator totals each option — nightly subtotal plus taxes plus fees — and recommends whichever comes out cheaper for your trip, with the dollar difference shown alongside the recommendation.
Every Number Here Is What You Enter
Unlike some other Trip Planning calculators, nothing in this comparison is estimated from distance, speed, or any other assumption — every figure is exactly what you type in. That means the result is only as accurate as the quotes you use, so it's worth checking real listings for nightly rates, tax rates, and fees (especially Airbnb's cleaning and service fees, which can add up) before relying on this comparison.
FAQ
Why do I have to enter all the prices, taxes, and fees myself?
Hotel and Airbnb pricing, tax rates, and fees vary enormously by location, season, and individual listing, and there's no way to look up real prices without a live booking connection. Rather than guess at numbers and present a false sense of accuracy, this calculator asks for the quotes or estimates you already have.
Why does the Airbnb side ask about fees separately from taxes?
Airbnb listings commonly add a cleaning fee and a service fee on top of the nightly rate, in addition to occupancy taxes — costs hotels typically bundle differently (often as a resort fee, or taxes already included in the quoted rate). Separating fees from taxes lets you enter each platform's actual cost structure instead of forcing both into the same shape.
Why doesn't the number of travelers change the cost?
Both a hotel room and an Airbnb listing are typically priced as a whole unit per night, not per person — a larger group usually means booking a bigger room or listing (or more than one), which changes the nightly rate you'd enter, not a simple per-person multiplier. Travelers is shown for context only and isn't used in the cost math, so this calculator doesn't invent an assumption about how many rooms or beds your group needs.
How does this calculator decide between the hotel and the Airbnb?
It adds up the nightly subtotal, taxes, and fees you entered for each option into a total cost, then recommends whichever total is lower — with the dollar amount you'd save shown alongside the recommendation.
